KAIKEN TERROIR SERIES SAUVIGNON BLANC A new groundbreaking Kaiken joins the flock

1 December, 2014

2014 will be remembered as the year our Terroir Series Sauvignon Blanc made its debut. This new wine is crafted with grapes sourced from a special, high-altitude vineyard situated 1,500 meters above sea level (4,921 ft) in Gualtallary-Tupungato, an area of the Uco Valley in Mendoza. Gualtallary-Tupungato soils have evolved over the past 2.5 million years through alluvial erosion of the Andes Mountains. They are very difficult to permeate and the vines have to work hard at putting their roots down deep, resulting in low plant fertility but excellent quality fruit. Sauvignon Blanc is a variety very sensitive to climate and it requires fairly extreme conditions to achieve full expression in the final wine. At such high altitude, the right conditions prevail in our vineyard, where particularly high thermal oscillation occurs during the ripening period (January to March). Temperatures are low at night, and by day the vineyard benefits from cool breezes descending from the mountains, conditions which help preserve grape flavours from harvest up until the wine is bottled.

OUR TERROIR SERIES COMPRISES DISTINCTIVE WINES RESULTING FROM OUR CONTINUAL QUEST FOR INNOVATIVE TERROIRS, FROM WHICH AURELIO MONTES JR. SELECTS THE BEST GRAPES TO CRAFT APPEALING AND CREATIVE WINES.

We are happy and proud to introduce you to a new member of our Terroir Series: an outstanding Sauvignon Blanc from Argentina. This is a wine that reaffirms our adventurous spirit, showing Argentina’s world class potential as a white wine producer and our commitment to quality through innovation. Our Terroir Series Sauvignon Blanc is an extremely elegant wine with lovely citrus and fresh peach notes on the nose, and mineral notes on the palate coming from the lime-rich soils of Gualtallary. This is a refreshing wine with well-balanced acidity; 16% of the wine was fermented in second-use French oak barrels, which adds flavour elements for a long and enjoyable finish. Without doubt, a true Terroir Series wine!
